A missing certification keyword can disqualify you instantly — even if you hold the credential but listed it in a format the ATS can't parse.
Use this structure for maximum ATS compatibility:
1. Contact Information — Name with credentials after it (RN, BSN, MSN, MD), phone, email, city/state, license number.
2. Professional Summary — 3-4 sentences highlighting specialization, years of experience, and key certifications.
3. Licenses & Certifications — Place this HIGH on the resume. Include license numbers, issuing bodies, and expiration dates.
4. Core Clinical Skills — 9-12 keywords matching the job posting.
5. Professional Experience — Reverse chronological, with quantified patient outcomes.
6. Education — Degrees, schools, graduation dates.

Always list your certifications using both the acronym and full name. Write "Basic Life Support (BLS)" not just "BLS." Many healthcare ATS systems scan for the full term.
Listing certifications only in a footer. ATS often can't read headers and footers. Put certifications in the main body of the document.
Using tables for skills. Multi-column skill tables break ATS parsing. Use a simple comma-separated list instead.
Missing EMR/EHR keywords. If you're proficient in Epic, Cerner, MEDITECH, or Allscripts, name them explicitly — these are frequently scanned.
No patient metrics. "Managed patient caseload of 25+ daily" or "Maintained 98% patient satisfaction scores" are much stronger than generic duty descriptions.
